Zander's Prompt

Why was it that Dally seemed to "crack" after Johnny died? He wouldn't have gotten himself shot because anyone else died, so why is Johnny special to him?

I think Dally "cracked" after Johnny died because Johnny was the pet of the family. Johnny was really the only thing that Dally loved, because Johnny had no one to love him. I think that Dally felt bad because Johnny was always beaten by his parents.

But Dally is supposed to be the tough one that turned hard in jail on the streets of New York. Why should he care that Johnny's life was bad? His was worse.

I think, Dally didn’t want anybody else to experience how baddy he was treated, especially Johnny because he was always treated badly by his parents and after he got beaten up by those socs, it will be only natural that Dally will fell a little like a protective parent over Johnny, that is probably one major Dally deiced to help Johnny and Ponyboy escape so that they wouldn’t get in trouble. I think, Johnny reminds Dally of a little version of himself, mistreated, hurt, and kind-of alone.
